BABES
The RSVP B.A.B.E.S. Program uses puppets to teach elementary students the importance of making positive life choices. Beginning Alcohol and Addictions Basic Education Studies (B.A.B.E.S.) accomplishes this by instilling in young people positive living skills by providing them with accurate, non-judgmental information about the use and abuse of alcohol and drugs. Volunteers are trained to present the program in a fun way with the use of puppets, making it exciting and enjoyable for the children in kindergarten through second grade.
Foster Grandparent Program
The Foster Grandparent Program provides an opportunity for individuals age 60 and older to share their time, experiences and love to help children achieve academic success. Foster Grandparents serve children with exceptional or special needs by tutoring, supporting teachers in classrooms, giving constructive guidance and providing small group or one-on-one assistance wherever needed at public and private schools in La Crosse, Monroe and Vernon Counties. Foster Grandparents receive pre-service orientation and monthly in-services. A Foster Grandparent tends to serve an average of 20 hours. Non-stipend Foster Grandparents can elect to volunteer for 8 or more hours a week. Stipend Foster Grandparents need to volunteer an average of 20 hours a week. To receive a stipend and transportation assistance, the Foster Grandparent needs to show income eligibility.
Foster Grandparents strengthen communities by building bridges across generations!
Please join us. No experience is necessary, only a caring heart.
Study Buddy Program
Study Buddies are volunteers who assist elementary students with reading and math skills and homework assignments. If you enjoy reading, have patience and humor, enjoy being with children, have good listening skills and want to make a difference in the life of a child, then this program is perfect for you. No special training is required.
Various schools across La Crosse and Monroe Counties welcome volunteers year round to help students excel academically. Volunteers need to commit approximately one hour per week. Through caring, conversation, and listening, Study Buddies give students the opportunity to develop good study and social skills.
