Adult Literacy

Become a Literacy Tutor! Meet weekly, at flexible days & times, and help a an adult improve their literacy skills!

No experience required, just a desire to help an adult achieve their literacy goals! If you can read and write fluently, you can help an adult to read, write or speak English better. Our one-on-one and small group tutoring program is learner-centered, based on each adult learner's personal, literacy-related goals, such as writing an email message, helping a child with homework, getting a better job, or getting a driver license.

The Huntington Beach Library Adult Literacy Program is looking for tutors to meet a minimum of two hours a week, morning, afternoon, evening or weekend. Literacy Volunteers - HBPL provides tutor training, as well as a collection of teaching materials, a computer lab and space in the library for tutor pairs to meet. We have two sites Central Library and Oak View Branch Library.

Becoming a Literacy tutor at either Central or Oak View starts with the successful completion of Tutor Training. Learn all about our program, adults who come to us, and much more.

Must be 22 years or older and able to commit to weekly tutoring for minimum of one year.

We look forward to hearing from you!
