Volunteer Healthcare Clinic

For 55 years, the Volunteer Healthcare Clinic (VHC) has been providing basic medical services to those most in need in Austin - low income adults and children with no medical insurance or the means to obtain these vital services. We conduct three clinics a week consisting of one chronic disease management clinic and two, walk-in acute/primary care clinics on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday evenings. Due to COVID-19, we are having both in-person and telehealth appointments with our patients.

We have a small, mental health program where patients suffering from anxiety or depression are seen by a counselor or, for those requiring medication, a psychiatrist. The demand for this service has increased during COVID-19 and we now need additional therapists who can counsel these patients and provide services.

Ideally, we would like to add 1 or 2 more therapists who can counsel our patients during the day (Monday - Thursday anytime between 10 am - 4 pm). We are flexible and can schedule around your preference but we would like to make use of the Clinic during our non-Clinic time. The sessions can be telehealth from the Clinic or in-person depending on your preference. About 70% of our patients speak Spanish, so Spanish/English proficiency or the willingness to work with an interpreter, would be necessary.

About Volunteer Healthcare Clinic

Location:

4215 Medical Parkway, Austin, TX 78756, US

Mission Statement

The Volunteer Healthcare Clinic provides free, high quality healthcare to some of Austin's most vulnerable residents.

Description

In 1966, a dedicated group quietly began finding healthcare for people who had no access to medical services. Many of Austin's working poor such as manual laborers must choose between food for their families and medical care. The Volunteer Healthcare Clinic, formerly known as Caritas Clinic, provides high quality healthcare for this uninsured population. With a small staff, our clinic is operated almost entirely by volunteer doctors, nurses, interpreters and office aides. Our volunteers range from young adults to retired medical professionals sharing their time and talent with some of Austin's most vulnerable residents.
