World Food Program Committee Leadership Council Job Description
Are you interested in making the world a better place? Are you interested in joining the movement to end global hunger? Friends of the World Food Program (Friends of WFP) is a U.S.-based, nonprofit, nonpartisan organization that focuses on building support in the United States for the United Nations World Food Program (WFP) and other hunger relief initiatives. We are seeking entrepreneurial, self-starting leaders with follow through to establish WFP Committees in their communities. In January 2008, Friends of WFP launched a grassroots, outreach campaign - the WFP Committee Program - that organizes and mobilizes volunteers in the campaign to end global hunger through fundraising, advocacy and awareness-raising activities. If you are interested in being part of the movement, read on...
Responsibilities:
- Complete our two-month training and orientation program.
- Work with other local volunteer leaders to establish, set priorities for and lead your WFP Committee.
- Establish and submit WFP Committee goals every six months, outlining a minimum of three goals.
- Events will focus on raising awareness in your community about global hunger, fundraising, political advocacy and working with your local media, among others (event information is provided during your orientation, and event planning support is provided by your State Coordinator and Friends of WFP).
- Maintain regular communication with your State Coordinator.
- Recruit and organize additional volunteers for committee support.
- Participate in meetings with your Committee Leadership Council and subcommittees.
- Keep up to date with issues relating to global hunger and food security.
- Participate in national monthly conference calls for event planning ideas and presentations from WFP leadership around the world.
Training: All members of the WFP Committee Leadership Council will first complete a two-month training and orientation (via conference calls and online tools), after which you will assume leadership within your WFP Committee. Upon completion of the training and orientation, members of the WFP Committee Leadership Council will participate in monthly conference calls regarding events, program updates, hunger and WFP education.
