Americana Fiberworks volunteers work in a multicultural setting to provide assistance with fiber art and educational classes. These classes are designed to help adult women learn English through art activities and educational seminars.

Available: Year Round

Hours: Mondays and Fridays 12:30pm-3:30pm, Saturdays 10am-1pm

Americana Fiberworks services are designed to make sustainable changes in a family and integrate the following activities:

Interactive literacy activities that connect English and art.

Parent education that leads to economic self-sufficiency.

Volunteers are needed to assist staff with class lessons that supports Americana Fiberworks goals.

Specific Duties

Work one-on-one and in small groups to provide assistance to adult women.

Share daily Fiberworks duties and staffing during enrichment activities.

Work with Fiberworks staff in providing special events and programming, opportunities, and help as needed

Responsible for acting as a representative of the Community Center to all those served by the Americana Community Center

Assist in the implementation of the discipline protocol as your comfort allows.

Other duties as assigned.

Description

The Americana Community Center is located in the South End of Louisville. The South End has a large concentration of varied ethnic groups, with 26 different languages spoken. The Americana Community Center exists to be responsive to the needs of the diverse community by providing language and family based services to refugees, immigrants and other U.S. born citizens.
