Bet Tzedek

Bet Tzedek Legal Services (which means "House of Justice" in Hebrew), provides free legal information, referral, advocacy, and representation to low-income clients throughout Greater Boston.

The program is looking for attorneys experienced in the following types of civil cases: housing; consumer law; government benefits; individual rights; and probate and family law including divorce, domestic abuse, and immigration.

Pro bono opportunities vary from handling individual cases to providing brief telephone advice on a specific legal issue. Whatever their time commitment, Bet Tzedek Legal Services attorneys have the potential to make an enormous difference in an individual’s life while fulfilling the recommendations of the Massachusetts Bar to assist persons with limited means.

Volunteer Requirements

  • Licensed to practice in Massachusetts (passed the bar in MA)
  • May commit to one or more cases per year
  • Mentor, recruit, and train other attorneys or JF&CS staff
  • Self-sufficient, actively practicing, and have the resources needed to help clients
  • Must have a firm that supports pro bono work and is able to offer supervision for pro-bono cases
  • The ideal candidate will have an interest in defending the rights of low-income people.

About Jewish Family & Children's Service

Location:

1430 Main Street, Waltham, MA 02451, US

Mission Statement

Jewish Family & Children's Service (JF&CS) cares for individuals and families by providing exceptional human service and health care programs, guided by Jewish traditions of social responsibility, compassion, and respect for all members of the community.

Description

For almost 150 years, Jewish Family & Children's Service has been the safety net for over 30,000 individuals and families in 80 Greater Boston communities. Since its inception, the focus of JF&CS has been to support our friends and neighbors through difficult life transitions and times of personal crisis, offering programs and services for every stage of life.

JF&CS is especially responsive to the needs of vulnerable members of our community: newborns and their parents, individuals with development disabilities or persistent mental illness, families at risk and the frail elderly. What makes our continuum of programs unique is our steadfast dedication to caring not only for the physical and economic health of individuals and families, but also for their emotional and spiritual well-being.

JF&CS is always ready to respond, no matter how difficult the problem and regardless of a person's background or ability to pay.
