Lesson Volunteerswork in a team to assist with riding lessons. One volunteer serves as a horse leader and guides the horse throughout the lesson. Two additional volunteers serve as side walkers to assure the safety of the student rider. Every week of lessons, nearly 180 volunteer positions must be filled in order for us to teach safe riding lessons.

Barn Assistant Volunteers provide the care our herd needs every day of the year. Volunteers perform barn chores like feeding horses, mucking stalls, sweeping, cleaning tack, stripping stalls, grooming, and tacking horses.

Schooling Ridersare competent equestrians chosen by Greystone Manor TRC instructors to school and exercise our horses and ponies. In order to become a schooling rider, volunteers must serve in our lesson program for at least one full session (six weeks) and pass a riding test including walk, trot, and canter.

Professional Volunteersdonate their professional services in areas such as photography, grant writing, budget and finance, and gardening.

Facility Assistantshelp with cleaning, maintenance, and grounds keeping duties like mending fences and mowing.

Office Assistants help with mailings, filing, and other office duties.

The minimum age for all volunteers is 14 years of age.

Experience with horses and/or with people that have special needs is helpful, but not required. We provide basic training on lesson volunteering during orientation and offer additional learning opportunities throughout the year for our volunteers to gain skills and knowledge in these areas.

If you have other ideas about how you would like to help out, please let us know!

Greystone Manor Therapeutic Riding Center would not be able operate without our volunteers. We provide opportunities for children and adults with special needs to participate in equine-assisted activities. Horseback riding helps improve balance, coordination, endurance, strength, social relationships, and self-esteem. Our volunteers make that experience possible.

Thank you for your time, commitment, and desire to serve others!

Mission Statement

Mission: To enhance the lives of individuals with special needs through equine assisted activities. Vision: To grow and be acknowledged as a diverse therapeutic riding program of distinction that is recognized in our community and beyond.

Description

Greystone Manor Therapeutic Riding Center is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that provides quality equine programs for children and adults with special needs. Our mission is to enhance the lives of individuals with special needs through equine assisted activities. This is done in a fun and non-judgmental setting where riders enjoy friendships, improve self-esteem, develop physical strength, and increase socialization.

We are in need of all types of volunteers, not just operational volunteers or those who have experience with horses! People with different backgrounds and expertise, from marketing to finance to landscaping or construction, are just as valuable to our operation as those who are directly involved with our horses and students!

We can only achieve our mission with the help of many dedicated volunteers who give their time and support throughout the year. Volunteers must be at least 14 years of age. Those who are on our volunteer team will have opportunities to work with our riders, horses, and staff through 6-week sessions and unmounted clinics. We also have special events, such as our annual horse show and our annual Gala, that we can always use additional help for! Training is provided for all volunteers.

Come join our herd! Please feel free to reach out to us directly in order to learn more about how you can benefit from serving others with us!
