SRLA is currently recruiting volunteers for the 20th annual 18-mile Friendship Run on Sunday, February 8, 2015. This run is organized by Students Run LA as an important training run for our 3000 students and leaders that are training for the ASICS LA Marathon on Sunday, March 15, 2015 - SAVE THE DATE - we'll also need volunteers this day). The Friendship run is also open to members of the community.
The run starts at 8:00 a.m. Volunteers are encouraged to arrive before 6:00AM. We will require volunteer assistance from 6AM to 2PM. Many volunteer positions will be finishing up by 12PM, but we always appreciate volunteers that can stay later for slower runners and help with some clean up.
We are looking for volunteers that are willing to take a leadership role. Especially, people that are willing to be water station captains out on the course, and work to train other volunteers. Volunteers will be needed to assist with the following: water stations, distributing t-shirts, distributing lunch/snacks, cutting fruit, finish line assistance, finisher medals, and other duties as needed including minimal clean up at the end of the event. We will also have a cleaning crew come in to the park.
Additional information will be sent to volunteers that sign up to help at this event. Questions can be emailed to nikki@srla.org.

Mission Statement
The mission of Students Run LA is to challenge underserved secondary students to experience the benefits of goal-setting, character development, adult mentoring and improved health by providing them with a truly life-changing experience: The training for and completion of the LA Marathon.
Description
To carry out its mission, SRLA has five key objectives:
To provide teacher mentors who assist students in their training and who reinforce the lessons of responsibility, discipline and goal-setting.
To support students in tackling a supremely difficult goal, to break down their mental barriers to this goal, and to create "can do" attitudes.
To introduce students to the pleasure of running, encourage students to develop the habit of physical fitness, and teach students aspects of healthy living.
To create an opportunity for students of all ethnic groups, cultures, and socioeconomic backgrounds to meet one another and experience an important sense of belonging.
To offer a program in which all students are welcome, all have the same chance to achieve the goal, and all become winners.
For many of the students, training for a marathon represents the first time that they have committed to a specific goal. By providing them an opportunity for incremental accomplishment and a supportive environment to help them on their way, SRLA gives the students the inspiration, excitement and encouragement to accomplish their goal.
