Assist teachers at the Cardinal Hill New Beginnings Childcare Center. Oversee children in daily activities and maintain discipline to assure a healthy and safe environment for children. Assist the teacher in preparing and implementing daily activities. Oversee daily activities such as play time, nap time, outside time, etc. Attend to the needs of individual children (diapering infants, rocking infants, putting shoes on children, etc.). Perform occasional tasks such as stocking diapers, clean changing area, putting down cots for naptime.
A. Direct children in self help skills
i) take children to the bathroom
ii) wash hands and faces
iii) wipe noses
iv) get children ready to go outside
v) tie shoes
B. Set up and serve meals
i) prepare bottles and /or infant food
ii) feed infants
iii) lunch and snack
C. Clean up as necessary
i) after meals, snacks, and feedings
ii) after art
iii) soiled clothes
iv) soiled chairs
v) straighten room

The Childcare Assistant will be trained by the New Beginnings Manager and teachers. Volunteers will be in daily contact with New Beginnings staff, children and parents and collaborate with department staff and with other departments as necessary.

• Patience and a sincere interest in children's development is required. All volunteers must attend a general volunteer orientation as well as a department specific orientation. Requires the ability to lift children weighing up to 50 pounds, perform moderately difficult manipulative skills, walk, sit, reach, crouch, bend, stand for prolonged periods, and remain in uncomfortable positions for long periods. Ability to work with young children. Adequate conversational English is required in order that the individual be able to take direction from management, understand how to complete job tasks, communicate adequately with patients and co-workers as necessary, understand and follow safety guidelines, and understand the employee handbook and all hospital policies.
