OVERVIEW
The Homeland Security Foundation of America ("HSFA") is currently seeking a diverse group of professionals, government and foundation executives, public safety, energy and health and human services experts and/or community leaders, who will bring access and influence to HSFA. Please see "Qualifications below".

SUMMARY:
The Press Secretary/Public Relations Volunteer will help coordinates activities, including media contacts, for HSFA and and the President/CEO Office.
ESSENTIAL VOLUNTEER JOB FUNCTIONS:
o Acts as the formal spokesperson and media liaison;
o Develops and implements media, communications, and public relations strategies;
o Remains abreast of current legislative and non-legislative issues about which the President and Executive staff may be questioned;
o Evaluates current events and media reports in the district, state and the nation for their impact on the organization
o Provides ideas and advice on the effect of the President's actions and activities have in the media;
o Maintains a good working relationship with the Executive staff, media, and community partners
o Works well under pressure and handles stress;
o Performs other duties as assigned.
Skills
- EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE: A bachelor's degree in journalism, public relations or a closely related field preferred, but not required, including strong academic credentials; and at least two years of government and/or congressional experience. Alternatively, a minimum two of years of related experience in media, broadcasting, newspaper or training is required. Governance and Finance: Establishes governance principles and policies, applicable to the organization, monitors compliance and assists the Board in its oversight of financial affairs Fundraising: The Supports the mission, goals, and programs of the organization by identifying and securing multiple sources of monetary and non-monetary support. Performance Support: Conducts "Selection" for board director candidates, ensures seamless transition for new members of the board of directors, committees and staff by developing and facilitating orientation / training, and provides oversight to the Performance Support Office (PSO). Ad-hoc / Project Committees Energy Security: Acts on behalf of the Board in identifying and disseminating to the public information on (a) Global and National energy security policy and threats, and (b) new technology, processes and tips for improving energy utilization. The Energy Security Committee will advise the Board of Directors on planning, coordinating, and guiding energy security related projects, as assigned by the Board. Health and Human Services (HHS): Develops HHS programs to help protect the health of ALL Americans and providing essential human services, especially for low-income, disadvantaged families. Public Safety: Develops programs, technologies and services to help improve domestic public safety and civil defense, focusing on key issues, e.g., Homeland Security, Disaster Preparedness, Child Safety and Privacy Protection.
