International Cancer Advocacy Network ("ICAN") is currently seeking people worldwide who can perform basic web searches of literature from various scientific fields for use in our archives to help educate advanced stage cancer patients, their families, and their caregivers about their diseases. Anyone who is proficient using the Web can easily learn what needs to be done.

This position is perfect for the following individuals:

1) High school juniors and seniors

2) Pre-Med and college students

3) Doctoral and post-doctoral students

4) Retired nurses; physicians; surgical, medical, and radiation oncologists; interventional radiologists

5) Any good researcher looking for a rewarding volunteer experience

By volunteering with us, you will be making a difference in the qualitative edge of our Program Services--which is what ICAN is known for!

We have easy-to-understand directions to make the volunteer experience as valuable and as enjoyable as possible for our volunteers and interns.

All we ask is that you have an interest in the subject matter or are at least willing to develop an interest and that you follow the straightforward instructions and promise to do your best to be responsive to our emails. If you commit to those three things, we know you'll have a great experience with us and will be encouraging your friends and colleagues to participate as ICAN volunteers as well!

PLEASE NOTE THAT ALL OF ICAN'S VOLUNTEER POSITIONS CAN BE TURNED INTO FORMAL INTERNSHIPS WITH CREDIT RECEIVED (just coordinate with your existing academic institution or employer) OR CAN BE COMPLETED FOR COMMUNITY SERVICE HOURS CERTIFICATION (with courts, schools, and so forth).

Some of our volunteers have been with us for two full years since we started this program (we have recently completed many, many customized medical school recommendation letters for quite a few of our volunteers). For volunteers who are with us for six months or more, we are happy to write detailed recommendations for graduate schools and medical schools as well as employment recommendations. All of our letters are personalized. We pride ourselves on the quality of our letters on behalf of our volunteers.
