Cook Children's is part of the Period of P.U.R.P.L.E. Crying education initiative. The education helps avoid shaken baby and other injuries to infants from caregivers. To that end, we give the gift of a purple hat to parents of infants newborn-6 months once they complete the trainig on prolonged infant crying.

Thanks to the generous creativity of knitters and crocheters locally and across the country Cook Children's has received 3,970 hats so far. These have all been given to caregavers and shared with other local hospitlas who participate in the Period of PURPLE Crying education program.

As we prepare for a new Click for Babies Purple Hat campaign this Fall, we would love to have you join our Stitch-A-Wish volunteers. There is no minumum requirement; you can knit/crochet as much or as little as you choose in the comfort of your home. We do ask that

1. The yarn be soft for an infant's scalp

2. The caps be at least 50% purple (any shade of purple or mixed purples)

3. The hats are washed before delivery (or mailing) to Cook Children's.

Don't knit or crochet? Consider making a difference by donating yarn, circular looms, or gift cards to purchase yarns.

Join us in making infants safer and parents better able to cope!. You may help save a life.
