ORGANIZATION: National MS Society - Gateway Area Chapter

Position Summary:

MS Ambassadors are volunteers that can spread the word about MS in their community. Their knowledge about the Chapter's advocacy, support, research, programs and fundraising gives MS Ambassadors the chance to increase the capacity of the Chapter moving the Society closer to achieving the mission. They play a critical role in communicating the availability of vital Chapter programs and services to people with MS and their families.

Responsibilities:

Ambassadors expertly represent the Society's movement for a world free of MS by mobilizing the community and increasing understanding, awareness and education.

  • Educate the general public and internal audiences about MS, the Society and Chapter activities by participating in local health fairs, public speaking opportunities, and attending programs.
  • Attend Chapter Programs, fundraising events, and team fundraisers/kick-offs.
  • Be an advocate in the greater community for the Chapter/Society's programs and assistance efforts.
  • Recruit new volunteers, clients, and participants for Chapter activities.

Requirements:

The ideal MS Ambassador is a proactive individual who possesses demonstrated reliability, professionalism, basic computer skills, reliable transportation and can work independently.

Commitment: specific time commitments for each MS Ambassador will vary depending on how many opportunities they attend. At the least, MS Ambassadors can expect the following:

  • Quarterly one-on-ones with Program Director
  • Attendance/Participation in at least two Chapter Programs
  • Non-established time at health fairs, etc.

Description

The National Multiple Sclerosis Society funds more MS research, offers more services for people with MS, provides more professional education programs and advances more MS advocacy efforts than any other MS organization in the world. Through its home office and nationwide network of chapters, the National MS Society provides assistance to over a million people annually in its continuing mission to end the devastating effects of multiple sclerosis.

Seeking volunteers to the MS cause is the very core of our business. Each year the Society organizes a series of community events that provide many opportunities for the enthusiastic volunteer. The Society offers four key fund-raising activities:

  • Bike MS
  • Walk MS

The Society also engages volunteers to help influence lawmakers at the federal, state and municipal levels toward legislation important to people living with MS. The Society is looking for passionate volunteers with expertise in areas such as:

  • Marketing/Communications
  • Public relations
  • Corporate and donor development
  • Medical, legal, administrative.
