ORGANIZATION: National MS Society - Gateway Area Chapter

There are a variety of ways to provide administrative assistance to the National MS Society, Gateway Area Chapter. These positions help make the operations of the Society possible and in turn, help the National MS Society raise the funds needed to find a cure for MS.

Office opportunities are available in the following departments:

  • Programs and Services
  • Volunteer and Community Outreach
  • Individual Giving (non-profit administration and donor development)
  • Development (event planning and fundraising)

Responsibilities/Duties:

Each department has their own set of duties. Examples include:
  • Making phone calls to clients, prospective donors, current donors, past donors, volunteers, etc.
  • Data entry utilizing excel and/or the databases the Chapter utilizes
  • Filing and mailings
  • Additional projects as they arise

Qualifications:

  • Must be able to commit to once a week, on an ongoing basis
  • Reliability
  • Must be comfortable on the phone and computer
  • Good communication and customer service skills
  • Friendly attitude and good phone etiquette
  • Experience in Excel
  • Attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently

Physical Requirements:

  • Able to sit for extended periods of time

Training / Orientation Provided:

  • On the job training
  • Learn to work in NMSS databases (Convio, Altair and E Procurement)
  • Ongoing support from department staff
  • View customer service training videos

Description

The National Multiple Sclerosis Society funds more MS research, offers more services for people with MS, provides more professional education programs and advances more MS advocacy efforts than any other MS organization in the world. Through its home office and nationwide network of chapters, the National MS Society provides assistance to over a million people annually in its continuing mission to end the devastating effects of multiple sclerosis.

Seeking volunteers to the MS cause is the very core of our business. Each year the Society organizes a series of community events that provide many opportunities for the enthusiastic volunteer. The Society offers four key fund-raising activities:

  • Bike MS
  • Walk MS

The Society also engages volunteers to help influence lawmakers at the federal, state and municipal levels toward legislation important to people living with MS. The Society is looking for passionate volunteers with expertise in areas such as:

  • Marketing/Communications
  • Public relations
  • Corporate and donor development
  • Medical, legal, administrative.
