Job Title: Docent Effective: On-going Supervised by: Education Curator Status: Volunteer

Position Summary:

The Sonoma County Museum's Docent Program provides an exciting educational opportunity for individuals interested in contributing time and energy toward furthering the Museum's mission. Docents are responsible for leading education-based tours of Museum exhibitions, by confidently providing tangible information about the Museum's history, visual arts, and cultural significance within Sonoma County.

Principle duties and responsibilities:

Work with the Education Curator to:

  • Lead comprehensive tours of the Museum and its collections
  • Maintain a warm, professional public presence
  • Perform quality tours to a wide variety of groups and individuals
  • Attend training and information sessions about exhibitions and programs
  • Maintain a high degree of professionalism consistent with the Museum's personnel policy: dress, personal conduct, and other personnel standards
  • Act as a positive ambassador in the community for the Museum and its programs
  • Contribute to the future of the Museum by communicating an understanding of the Museum to the general public, as well as comments and suggestions to the staff
