Refugees are legal immigrants who have fled persecution and war in their home countries. The US government invites some of these refugee families to come to Dallas and make a new life. Catholic Charities helps newly arrived refugees get settled, learn English, find a job and become self-sufficient in this new environment.

Become a part of the refugee resettlement process! You can assist the Volunteer Coordinator with the volunteer program including administrative tasks as well as managing volunteers.

This is an excellent opportunity to gain some valuable experience in a diverse and multi-cultural environment. Ideal for someone interested in human resources, personnel, and/or volunteer management fields.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The Volunteer Coordinator Assistant position would support our Volunteer Coordinator in volunteer recruitment, placement, training, and administrative duties. Other tasks will include the following:

• Create and update volunteer files;
• Log volunteer hours;
• Conduct phone interviews with volunteers;
• Contact reference checks for volunteers;
• Assist with monthly volunteer training sessions;
• Assist with community outreach events to recruit new volunteers;
• Assist with volunteer placement and refugee family Mentor introductions.

The idea candidate would be willing to commit to at least 10-15 hours per week, Monday through Friday, between the hours of 9 AM to 4 PM.

• SKILLS/QUALIFICATIONS: * Can work independently with minimal supervision. * Must have excellent communication skills, both written and oral. * Computer proficiency (PC) required, particularly familiarity with Microsoft Windows programs. * Must be detail oriented, flexible and able to work independently in a fast-paced, multi-cultural environment. * Must be willing to interact with refugees from a variety of cultural backgrounds and able to work both independently and as part of a team to ensure proactive, quality services to clients. * Strong English language skills and the ability to communicate with limited English speakers required.
