Case Management Assistant

Description

Refugees are legal immigrants who have fled persecution and war in their home countries. The US government invites some of these refugee families to come to Dallas and make a new life. Catholic Charities helps newly arrived refugees get settled, learn English, find a job and become self-sufficient in this new environment.

Become a part of the refugee resettlement process! Every month we receive new families arriving from all over the world. Our goal is to resettle the family and help them to become self-sufficient within the first 6 months. This is achieved through dedicated resettlement case management, education, cultural orientation, employment services, and the efforts of our volunteers and interns. You will be a great help as we work to provide services for newly arrived refugees.

You can help by taking refugee families to apply for benefits. We'll show you where to go and teach you how to do one or more of the tasks below. Then you'll come in to assist as needed, usually daytime weekdays. Each task will take 2 to 3 hours, and the possibilities include:

  • WIC (Women, Infants and Children) Program - provides supplemental food for pregnant women and young children. You will accompany refugee women to the WIC office (10 minutes away) and enroll them.
  • Food Stamps/Grocery Shop - You will take refugee clients to the Food Stamp office (10 minutes away) to pick up their debit card, then take them to a grocery store to demonstrate how to use it and help them shop for groceries the first time.
  • Social Security Office - You will take refugee families to apply for their Social Security cards (15 minutes away). You will complete an application for each person in the family, turn them in and get receipts.
