Need :
The Bay Area suffers from a large and increasing prison population. Incarceration does not just affect an individual, it affects the entire family. Research suggests there are approximately 27,500 youth affected by parental incarceration in the Bay Area and these kids need our support.
Solution :
The Centerforce LIFE Project is one of the only programs in the Bay Area that specifically addresses the needs of youth affected by parental incarceration. The LIFE Project aims to strengthen and promote leadership in youth impacted by parental incarceration by providing one-on-one mentoring combined with larger group events focusing on a community approach to the issues the youth may be facing.
The LIFE Project serves 5 counties in the Bay Area: San Francisco, San Mateo, Alameda, Contra Costa, and Marin.
Requirements :
You were, at some point in your life, a teenager
You are a good listener
You are willing to maintain a strong relationship with your mentee (4 hours a month) and attend a two day mentor training session. Although our office is located in Marin you will not need to come to Marin to volunteer.
You can make a difference - get involved! To become a mentor, contact Dedoceo at dhabi@centerforce.org.
The Centerforce mission is to support, educate and advocate for individuals, families and communities impacted by incarceration.
