Newport News Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) is a volunteer child advocacy program that provides advocates for children who have been abused and neglected and who are receiving services within the 7 th District Juvenile & Domestic Relations Court. The mission of the CASA Program is to help end the tragic cycle of child abuse by bringing hope for a brighter future and the possibility of a safe, permanent, loving home to children that have too often experienced fear, loneliness, and sorrow.

CASA volunteers cannot stop poverty or addiction, and saddest of all, they cannot stop parents from abusing a child. However, they do give the hurt child hope for a better future, one with no beatings, no neglect, and no mean words. The ordeals facing this growing population of children is heart wrenching, but I know that our volunteers are making a positive, life-changing difference for in their lives.

CASA volunteers "speak up" for children who have been abused by submitting a court report to the judge. The court report highlights recommendations in the best interest of the child. On average, volunteers devote 10 hours of their time throughout the month based on their availability. All volunteers are trained on the juvenile court system, child protective services, foster care, understanding children who have experienced separation & loss, and much more!

To become a CASA, a completed application is needed as well as an interview. Call the CASA office today to schedule an interview and complete background checks to begin the process. For more information call (757) 926-3642 or visit www.nncasa.org.
