Do you like to meet people? Do you like participating in recreational activities? Are you organized and like working on computers? Help provide compassionate, supportive care to families displaced from their homes during disasters. Help your county.

You will help set up shelters and provide comfort care to families in shelters in your county. Workers will support registering families into shelters, distributing snacks, drinks and shelter supplies, developing/conducting recreational activities and providing compassionate emotional support.

Mission Statement

The American Red Cross, a humanitarian organization led by volunteers and guided by its Congressional Charter and the Fundamental Principles of the International Red Cross Movement, will provide relief to victims of disaster and help people prevent, prepare for, and respond to emergencies.

Description

The American Red Cross organization assists on international disasters, conflict victims in locations around the globe and provides emergency communication centers in support of U.S. military families to process urgent messages.

The North Central Florida Chapter of the American Red Cross annually mobilizes relief to support community clients of single/multi-family disasters in Alachua, Columbia, Dixie, Gilchrist, Hamilton, Lafayette, Levy and Suwannee Counties. Also, on larger community disasters and nationwide disasters we deploy many volunteers in response to disaster needs.

It takes time to develop and prepare members to feel confident in their activity organized to work together as a united team. Stressful times of a disaster are not the time to learn on the fly. North Central Florida Chapter goals are to recruit quality, committed, AVAILABLE volunteers for our chapter. We need your help to make it a success.

We train our eight (8) counties to prepare, respond and cope with disasters through school based programs and community education. The North Central Florida Chapter trains our communities in vital lifesaving skills such as CPR and First Aid.

Disaster training is provided free to all to develop new skills and gain experience. We match your personal life skills and interests with your new disaster skills to be Red Cross ready for disaster assignments to help others in need.

Along your North Central Florida Chapter journey, you will gain great new friends and most importantly help others in your community and nationwide.

Volunteers will always be an essential team life-line partner to the American Red Cross.
