Adoption Education & Support Intern

Description

The Information & Education office partners with adoptive families to ensure a successful adoption through educational offerings, birth parent/child searches, international intermediary services, birth land tours, a mentor/mentee program, counseling, and consultation services. The intern will have some client contact through children's programming; responsibilities will be increased depending on performance and willingness.

Time Commitment: Minimum of 3-6 months, 10-30 hours per week; some flexibility in scheduling; must be available Monday and/or Wednesday evenings and another day shift.

Responsibilities:

1. Become proficient and knowledgeable about the agency, the adoption process, and department functions.

2. Work together as a team member with paid and volunteer staff.

3. Help facilitate an educational offering for adopted persons with staff assistance.

4. Plan activities for the educational offering with staff assistance.

5. Other duties as assigned.

6. Comply with all policies and procedures of CHSFS.

Skills

  • social work student: Qualifications: 1. Enrollment in a BSW or similar program 2. Ability to work as a team member and to accept responsibility 3. Ability to act independently and to seek consultation when needed. 4. Understanding and acceptance of children and parents from diverse cultural and economic backgrounds 5. Excellent interpersonal skills including problem solving and team building. 6. Excellent oral and written communication skills 7. Ability to facilitate a small group 8. Proficiency in using Microsoft Programs, such as Word & Excel 9. Interest in learning about the adoption and post adoption fields. Training: Provided by Information & Education Department Supervision: Graduate level, licensed Social Worker
