Description
We are in need of American Sign Language Interpreters for disaster classes taking place on the following dates: Dates: 1/8/2009: 6:30pm - 9:30pm 1/9/2009: 6:30pm - 9:30pm 1/10/2009: 9:00am - 5:00pm 1/11/2009: 9:00am - 5:00pm
Thursday evening is a class in the basics of the ARC mission; nothing technical required. -Friday evening is a basic level Disaster Services training, providing an overview of the activities (sheltering, feeding, bulk distribution and community programs) performed by the Mass Care group in support of a disaster relief operation. -Saturday is the Client Casework class. The class teaches not only the fundamentals of the disaster interview but teaches volunteers how to provide appropriate assistance to help meet a client's immediate disaster-caused or disaster-aggravated needs. There is a significant amount of paperwork training in this class; none of the forms are written in Braille. -Sunday's class is a class in basic shelter operations and also includes a 4 hour shelter simulation. It includes the knowledge of Red Cross policies and procedures for setting up, running and closing a shelter during a disaster. Miscellaneous: Dress code: casual. Participants will not be outside or anything. Meals: Meals are not provided to participants; there are a few places to eat near the location, but menu selections are not extensive. Parking: There is plenty of free parking around the entire building. No passes are needed.
Metro: We are about 1.5 miles away from the Dunn Loring Metro Station (Orange Line). Chapter does not provide shuttle service to/from station.
