The YWCA Family Center is looking for volunteers to provide meals for homeless families at our unique facility in Northeast Columbus

The Family Center is a 24-hour temporary housing facility for homeless families that serves up to 50 families per night. Families are assigned family advocates to help them find safe and affordable permanent housing. Residents have access to our employment resource room, laundry facilities, child advocates, on-site
"Safe and Sound" licensed day care center and after school programs.

Residents are provided with three meals and two snacks per day. The Family Center depends ENTIRELY on the donations and volunteer efforts of generous community members to provide dinners. We typically look for groups of 10-15 individuals to provide, prepare, serve and clean. Organize your friends, co-workers, family, congregation, etc.!

There are two options for volunteers:

1. Bring in enough food to serve upwards of 200 people and prepare it in our fully-equipped kitchen.
An example of a typical meal: Lasagna, Corn, Salad, Cookies, Lemonade

2. Make a $500 donation (covers the cost of food and staffing). Our staff will provide and prepare the meal and you and your fellow volunteers can help us set up, serve and clean up.

About YWCA Columbus

Location:

65 South Fourth St, Columbus, OH 43215, US

Mission Statement

YWCA Columbus is dedicated to eliminating racism, empowering women, and promoting peace, justice, freedom, and dignity for all.

Description

YWCA Columbus defies a status quo that puts women, people of color, and the underprivileged on uneven footing. By fostering dialog, providing practical resources, and educating, we promote empowerment and inclusion. We initiate systematic social change that will create a Columbus of peace, justice, freedom, and dignity for all.

YWCA Columbus has been serving Columbus, Ohio since 1886, pushing its residents to boldly stand up to injustices within our community and passionately protect the most vulnerable among us. In 1952, our organization chose to desegregate our swimming pool - the first to do so in Columbus. Since then, we have made it our goal to give our community the gift of "going first" time and time again - creating space to hash out issues, look for solutions, and march boldly toward equity for all.
