Exactly What is a Polar Plunge? The Polar Plunge is the largest fundraising effort benefiting Special Olympics in the state. Its purpose is to simply raise funds to enhance Special Olympics mission: To provide year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-style sports for children and adults with intellectual disabilities. Participants collect pledges from friends and family, all for the opportunity to jump into icy waters in the middle of winter. All proceeds collected by" plungers" benefit Special Olympics New York athletes. • Prizes are awarded in several categories such as best costume • Heated changing tents also allow plungers to warm up and change, while warm concessions and fun souvenirs are offered throughout the day • Incentives are awarded to individuals who reach certain sponsorship goals • Awards and Prizes are given to Top Teams and Fundraisers

How Do I Get Involved? • Gather your friends, family and coworkers and start your team • Go online and make your own personal PLUNGE PAGE, it only takes a few clicks of the mouse! • Set a goal • Let everyone know that you are taking the PLUNGE to benefit the athletes of Special Olympics New York - through e-mail, word of mouth, etc
