The Tom Vetica Resource Center is seeking volunteers to assist in day-to-day operations. The Community Assistance Center is a campus of service providers primarily serving individuals experiencing homelessness. The Resource Center primarily provides communication services, as well as information and referral services. The Resource Center is currently seeking compassionate volunteers to provide ongoing assistance at the Front Desk.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide social service referrals to individuals seeking assistance
- Assist clients with resource applications upon request
- Assist clients job search on the computer and with the newspaper
- Make copies of resource information as necessary
- Complete intake form with new clients
- Input data into Homeless Management Information System (HMIS)
- Monitor Phone Bank for phone and sign in sheet usage
- Retrieve and post messages for clients from Phone Bank voicemail
- Provide directions to and information about agencies within the Community Assistance Center
- Use respectful and professional customer service skills with all clients
- Recruit social service providers in the community to provide services/programs at the Resource Center
- Fax, copy, and print information for clients
- Distribute client mail in the mail room

Mission Statement
The mission of the Tom Vetica Resource Center is to enhance the quality of life for individuals experiencing homelessness and poverty through access to comprehensive on site resources; referral services; and to an array of free communication services in Washoe County.
Description
The Resource Center opened in October 2008. The facility is located at 335 Record Street at the Community Assistance Center. The Resource Center consists of a phone bank providing free local and long distance calling, personal mail access, and computer access. In addition, the Center consists of two classrooms and two offices for community agencies to utilize on a rotating basis. Community information and referral as well as mainstream resource application assistance is also available through front desk staff and visiting service providers.
