We Are Family coordinates a major Thanksgiving basket delivery to over 700 of the seniors we work with. We need your help to make this happen! We will gather throughout the weekend and week leading up to Thanksgiving to sort our donations and organize the pick-up of the turkeys (we deliver them frozen and the seniors bake them). Then we deliver the baskets of fixings, sides, and turkeys to the seniors in various areas of the city including homes, individual apartments, and senior housing buildings. The locations and times will change throughout the week, so check out our website or email us for more information. These seniors are facing extreme hunger and poverty and are often isolated and immobile. Without our deliveries they might spend the holiday alone and hungry. You can help make an immense difference in their lives!

We Are Family reaches out with services, advocacy, and companionship to isolated, low-income seniors in the Shaw, Columbia Heights, Petworth and Adams Morgan areas of Washington, DC, using a volunteer-driven model, grounded in grassroots senior leadership.
Description
We Are Family serves seniors in the Shaw, Columbia Heights, Petworth, and Adams Morgan neighborhoods of Washington, DC. We bring advocacy, services, organizing, and companionship into the homes of the elderly, while helping to build friendships across boundaries like race, class, religion, age, culture, and sexual orientation.
Most of our work is done by volunteers. While many of those who help do the work of We Are Family are seniors themselves -- who, after all, have built this community -- *we need you as well.* We use volunteer assistance for our outreach and our grocery deliveries to over 1,000 seniors each month.
