This is a wonderful time of year for many children, but often not for the clients of The Children's Law Center, some of the neediest, most at-risk children of DC. The Children's Law Center has over 500 individual children hoping someone will bring them a gift to open this holiday season. Our clients come from the poorest families in Washington. Some are abused and abandoned, some live in foster care or group homes, and most are in desperate need of health and education supports. Some of the clients who are most in need are teens facing the daunting prospect of aging out of foster care, with no family or other supports to help them.

Some of our clients have never had a "real Christmas." Some even believe that Santa decided they were too naughty - not nice - to get presents. By becoming an Adopt-a-Family Volunteer Santa, you can give them a happy holiday... and show them the true spirit of the holidays.

What it means to be Santa:
  • Make wishes come true - buy two items from each child's wishlist
  • Shop for one full outfit of clothes (including shoes) for each child
  • Provide a holiday meal by purchasing one grocery or Target gift card
  • Support the Children's Law Center with a generous gift and help us, together, meet the needs of children all year 'round.

So instead of wandering the malls, in search of something for the man who has everything - adopt a child in his honor! Instead of giving and receiving the same old, tired Secret Santa knickknacks and bath salts, get together with your office and adopt a family or two! Many of our teens are super-easy to shop for - they'd like to pick out their own things, and would love a gift card or two to Target or Macy's.

Once you sign up, you'll receive a letter with detailed information about your "adopted" children, as well as sizes and wishlists and the dates and times for gift drop-off.

Our elves will start matching you wonderful Santas with children and families on November 3rd, and we'll be accepting gifts from December 6th through the 13th, at our offices near the Chinatown Arch.

To sign up to "be Santa," or for more information, please email Alison King at aking@childrenslawcenter.org or call her at 202.467.4900 X 526.
