1 in 10 Minnesotans go to bed hungry.

Those without enough to eat, or without the resources to do something about it, have been our neighbors for a long time. Those who are hungry are not readily identified. They are grandparents, students, families facing foreclosure or a job lay-off. Organizations that provide emergency food witness the escalating need and the critical issues around hunger every day.

The demand upon emergency food programs has increased dramatically over the last several years. In 2008, for the first time Minnesotans made over 2 million visits to food shelves. In the Twin Cities, food shelf usage has risen 50%. And this impacts our most vulnerable neighbors the hardest - seniors visiting food shelves has increased 84% in last year in the metro area, and children, consistently, are 50% of those visiting food shelves.

Hunger is intolerable, solvable, and must be addressed. Become a part of the solution! Share your time and resources with others less fortunate by participating in the Walk to End Hunger which includes a Walk, Phone-A-Thon and Food Drive on Thanksgiving morning.

The Walk to End Hunger is presented by the Twin Cities Hunger Initiative - Catholic Charities,
Emergency Foodshelf Network, Greater Twin Cities United Way , Hope For The City,
Hunger Solutions, Keystone Community Services, Loaves and Fishes, Minnesota Food Share, Neighborhood House, Neighbors, Inc., Second Harvest Heartland and VEAP.

The Twin Cities Hunger Initiative, made up of hunger relief partner agencies, has developed the Walk to End Hunger as a part of their definitive plan to end hunger in the nine-county metro area by 2013.
