Position Summary: Family & Children's Service will pilot test the Strengthening Families Program, a 14-week, science-based program designed to work with high-risk families. Each session begins with a family meal that includes informal staff-coached family practice time. Although the program will involve entire families, it has specific programs for life skills for children ages 6-12 and their adult family members, both separately and together. Volunteers report to Lois Gunderson, Manager of the Initiative for Violence-Free Families.

Responsibilities: One-two volunteers will assist with set up and meal preparation for 10 families from 4-6 PM, and work with older children on homework, creative projects or recreational activities from 6-8 pm. We can provide activities or volunteers can develop their own (creativity welcome!) We ask for volunteers to commit to at least 3 weeks but a longer commitment would be welcome. A criminal background check is required for this position.

Schedule: Class meets Tuesdays, through February 10, 2008. Volunteer shifts are 4-6 and/o4 6-8 pm.

Since 1878, we have been in the community working to bring people together to make change happen. Our many programs - including counseling, family and school support services, violence intervention, community building, family life education and public policy advocacy - work hard to help people solve problems, prevent problems, or change community conditions to support families raising children.
