NOSSA - National Organization Of Short Statured Adults, Inc. will be holding elections in 2009 for the next term of the Board of Directors. The term will run from January 14, 2010 through January 14, 2014. The election will be held on November 8, 2009. Candidates must announce their intention to run for office no later than June 8, 2009. Please consider taking an active role in the leadership of the NOSSA organization. Your active participation on the Board of Directors could mean the difference between our organization meeting our mission or our organization dissolving due to a lack of participation. It is critical that we staff our Board with a minimum of three Board members. Please do not assume that someone else will be willing to take on the job. Serving on the board is a volunteer position. Board members serve as their time permits. Board members should be willing to answer organization e-mails and telephone calls and attend an annual board meeting in support of NOSSA. Board members should also be willing to speak with the press if requested. Positions open are: Chairman/President - Presides at organization meetings; Runs day to day operations or delegates to another Director; Appoints committee members; votes on key issues Vice-Chairman/Vice-President - Performs all the duties of President in his/her absence; votes on key issues Secretary - Maintains the membership log; votes on key issues Treasurer - Maintains the bank account; Prepares tax documents and other annual filings; votes on key issues. do I announce my candidacy? You may draft an e-mail that states your name and the office that you seek and send to us here by June 8, 2009. Do I need to have experience in order to serve on the Board of Directors? No. Any member of NOSSA can run for a position on the Board of Directors with or without experience. Will I be paid? No. This is a volunteer position. Serving on the board can however add to your resume/Curriculum Vitae. I am interested, however I live a great distance from New York City. Can I still serve? Absolutely. You can serve via e-mail and telephone. You can attend meetings through teleconference or through online communication. I am interested, however I am not a member of NOSSA. Can I still run? No. Only NOSSA voting members may run for office. No. Board members may resign at any time and for any reason by sending the Board written notice. How are Trustees elected and do I need to actually run a campaign for office? Trustees will be elected by a vote of the membership on November 8, 2009. Candidates may post letters to the membership on organization websites and also distribute promotional materials at organization meetings. Can I be denied the opportunity to run for Trustee? Yes. Candidates for Trustee can be denied the opportunity to run for office if they fail to meet the requirements listed in the NOSSA Constitution and By-laws. They can be denied the opportunity to run for office if there are already four qualified candidates for the position that they seek or if they fail to announce their candidacy by June 8, 2009. Members must also be in good standing with the organization and they may not have any affiliation whatsoever with certain business entities. For more information you may email us here.   • Only regular and honorary members of the corporation in good standing, may run for the office of Trustee. Candidates for Trustee must be natural persons who are 18 years of age or older. Candidates must announce their intention to run for the office of Trustee by June 8 th of the election year by submitting a formal letter of candidacy to the Board of Directors. There will be a limit of four candidates per open position. The first four qualified members to submit a formal letter of candidacy shall be permitted to run for the office of Trustee. Once the first four candidates have been approved, no further candidates will be accepted. The first four candidates to submit letters of candidacy shall be determined by a review of the date and time of submission of candidacy letter or if necessary, by a random drawing administered by the Board of Directors. Members who fail to meet the requirements of this section shall not be permitted to run for the office of Trustee. There shall be no appeal permitted for any action taken by the Board of Directors pursuant to this policy. Candidates for the office of Trustee shall not, in any way whatsoever, be affiliated with any vendor, contractor, advertiser, or other business entity that currently maintains a working relationship for profit with the organization. Nor shall any officer, owner, employee, or other representative of any manufacturer who produces human growth hormone, height-increasing products or services, or shoes that increase height; Nor shall any physician, employee, or representative of such physician who performs limb-lengthening surgery services, be entitled to run for the office of Trustee.
