Starting Artists, Inc. (SA) benefits under-served teenagers in Brooklyn, NY through hands-on training in the arts and entrepreneurship. SA's visual arts and business classes empower young people to create their own arts-based businesses and support them to positively impact their families, community, and world.

SA seeks enthusiastic and creative individuals to volunteer with us. Close proximity to downtown Brooklyn is a plus. Volunteers are needed for the following areas and tasks:

PROGRAMS/ADMINISTRATION * Serve as mentors and volunteer instructors to teens in arts and entrepreneurship * Create tools and systems to evaluate programs

DEVELOPMENT/FUNDRAISING * Organize innovative fundraisers that celebrate and build community * Research and write grants * Coordinate annual appeal * Cultivate individual donors * Increase base of community partners and sponsors

MARKETING/OUTREACH * Increase our presence on the Internet * Strengthen presence in the local school community

FACILITIES/RENOVATIONS * Design and build a darkroom * Beautify our outdoor garden space * Work on plumbing and repairs * Make the bathroom handicap accesible

• Teaching, Youth Development: Volunteers should have an interest in community-based arts, the ability to relate respectfully to teenagers, and a passion for collaborating with others to initiate and implement new projects. We especially seek those who have experience teaching middle & high school youth, leading classes and/or workshops, or creating art through traditional or computer-related media.
• Fundraising, Business Skills: Volunteers should have an interest in community-based arts, the ability to relate respectfully to teenagers, and a passion for collaborating with others to initiate and implement new projects. SA is eager to work with individuals who have experience in fundraising, including grant writing, special events, silent auctions, and more, as well as business leaders & entrepreneurs who have experience starting new ventures in the arts.
• Graphic Design, Media Art: Volunteers should have an interest in community-based arts, the ability to relate respectfully to teenagers, and a passion for collaborating with others to initiate and implement new projects. SA is always looking for artists with an interest in the community who are willing to share their skills in graphic design, photography, product design, fashion, film & animation, and much more. Guest artists lead workshops, teach classes, and mentor teens during our Afterschool Program.
