Dynamic, Supportive Board Members
Organization |
Description
Gorilla Rep provides free, high-quality productions of classical dramatic material in New York parks with a beloved physical style - and has done so since 1992. Gorilla Rep is committed to redoubling its efforts in this time of economic hardship and needs help from established, stable community members to build its board. Last summer's Hamlet on the lawn near The Cloisters was a major success, and the company launched exciting projects for this summer, including two new works on classic themes. We need board members who can meet our Founding Artistic and Producing Director's challenge to donate or be responsible for raising a minimum of 5K each fiscal year (he put 17K+ last summer, and has pledged 5K this year). You will be joining the Department of Cultural Affairs of the City of New York, and many other foundations and individuals who have helped and donated in the past. The Fidelius Foundation gave 10K in unrestricted support this summer.
Skills
- fund raising, consciousness raising, org: Fundraising. Consciousness-raising. Pro-active, responsible, organization-building. High moral character. Grass-roots enthusiasm (we have had board members who didn't even come to our *free* shows, and that is not acceptable). Ability to leverage your connections to help the company in a way that you are comfortable and confident about. Basic knowledge of theater and interest in our quest to pursue Joe Papp's vision that it should be as easy for a child in New York to see a high-quality Shakespeare or other classical production as it is to check out a book from the public library. Ability to recruit other brilliant Board Members (Trustees) a big plus .
