AMAM Volunteer Guild

Description

The principal duties of a Guild volunteer will be in the areas of Visitor and Information Services at the AMAM. A small percentage of the volunteer duties will include community relations and special events (as they occur). As a volunteer, you will be a stakeholder in the organization, and engage directly in the museum's person-to-person interaction.

There will also be opportunities to serve as community docents at the Weltzheimer/Johnson House, designed by Frank Lloyd Wright. Community Docents provide guided tours of the house and discuss its architecture, history, as well as the life of Frank Lloyd Wright and the history of the house as it relates to Oberlin. Special training will be required prior to serving as a docent, and forthcoming training sessions with be planned.

Skills

  • Volunteers should be prepared to meet and welcome a diverse public and respond to their needs and interests. Visitors will inquire not only about museum exhibits, programs, and amenities - such as restrooms - but also dining, places of interest, etc. Volunteers should be able to work weekends - when the museum has the highest level of visitors who may benefit from your assistance.
