St. Martin de Porres Shelter volunteers work in a variety of rotating jobs, which include assisting staff; serving meals, special food items, and beverages; distributing towels, bathrobes, and supplies; doing dishes; and clearing buffet tables to prepare area for sleeping mats. There is ample opportunity for conversation with the residents while in these positions.

Mission Statement

Our mission is to provide a hospitable, safe and orderly shelter for men 50 years of age and older who are homeless. This is to be done in the spirit of ministry of presence which fosters attention to the individual and respect for each man's unique situation.

Description

St. Martin de Porres provides nightly shelter for 212 homeless men age 50 and older every night of the year. Other services include hot meals, shower and hygiene facilities, laundry facilities, medical care, chemical dependency counseling, and housing case management.
