Patient Companions allow caregivers a much needed break from a daily routine of caring for their terminally ill loved one, whether they need to leave the house for a few hours to run errands, or go into another room to complete chores. Patient companion volunteers will interact with the patient and provide socialization, read, play games, sing, phone calls, etc. In addition to regular daytime hours, families can use support during evenings and weekends. Amedisys is looking for Patient Companions for Greater Birmingham, Hoover, Gardendale, Hueytown, Trussville, Calera, Chelsea, Jasper and Clanton, AL.

*Background checks and training are required. *

Description

Amedisys Hospice provides an individualized program of physical, emotional, spiritual and practical care for people in the last phases of an incurable disease, with an emphasis on control of pain and other symptoms. The program is reflective of a spirit and idea of caring that emphasizes comfort and dignity for the dying, making it possible for them to remain independent for as long as possible and in familiar surroundings. Hospice care is centered on both the patient and family/caregiver. Hospice personnel respect and respond to the unique differences in the family/caregiver lifestyle, values and wishes.
