Literacy Volunteers of Massachusetts (LVM) believes in the power of literacy to transform lives and communities. Since 1972, LVM has trained volunteer tutors to provide free, confidential and individualized tutoring to adults in basic reading and writing, and English to Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL).
LVM is seeking 1 or 2 summer college interns to help conduct our annual student satisfaction survey by telephone, conduct year-end student assessments and help recruit volunteer tutors.
As an LVM student wrote: " . . . I would go home and look in the mirror and say to myself I wish I would just disappear. It can stay with you for the rest of your life, disappointment that you are never going to learn to read. Then one day I picked up the phone and called Literacy Volunteers, it was the hardest thing I ever did. For the first time in my life someone said to me, I can help you. . . ."
LVM offers not only hope, but the opportunity to improve literacy skills and reach one's personal potential, which can be one of life's triumphs. Join us for this rewarding work and help ensure that more adults have access to the opportunity to reach their potential through literacy.
Start and end dates are flexible.
