ORGANIZATION: National MS Society - Gateway Area Chapter

Position Summary:

The intern will assist with the organization, and/or implementation of the special events and fundraising campaigns that make possible our chapter’s services and investment in MS-related medical research.

Responsibilities/Duties:

  • Event planning for Walk MS, Challenge Walk MS, Bike MS and other agency events
  • Research of local companies and their involvement with nonprofit organizations
  • Assist development department in organizing the storage and delivery of items donated for MS Society events
  • Phone call follow-up on vendors and companies that provide services to the MS Society events
  • Assist with the compiling and planning of staff guides and participant event guides for MS Society events
  • Other duties, based on intern interest and agency priorities

Qualifications:

  • Special event planning, or marketing student with strong writing, verbal communication and computer skills
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and handle numerous assignments
  • Demonstrated writing skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work efficiently with little supervision
  • Customer service

Time Commitment and Stipend:

14 to 16 hours a week during the regular business hours of Monday through Friday from 8:30am to 5pm, with the exact days and times to be determined according to intern schedule.

Description

The National Multiple Sclerosis Society funds more MS research, offers more services for people with MS, provides more professional education programs and advances more MS advocacy efforts than any other MS organization in the world. Through its home office and nationwide network of chapters, the National MS Society provides assistance to over a million people annually in its continuing mission to end the devastating effects of multiple sclerosis.

Seeking volunteers to the MS cause is the very core of our business. Each year the Society organizes a series of community events that provide many opportunities for the enthusiastic volunteer. The Society offers four key fund-raising activities:

  • Bike MS
  • Walk MS

The Society also engages volunteers to help influence lawmakers at the federal, state and municipal levels toward legislation important to people living with MS. The Society is looking for passionate volunteers with expertise in areas such as:

  • Marketing/Communications
  • Public relations
  • Corporate and donor development
  • Medical, legal, administrative.
