ORGANIZATION: National MS Society - Gateway Area Chapter

Position Summary:

The student will participate in developing and implementing programs and documenting outcomes for therapeutic exercise, wellness/educational programs for people with multiple sclerosis and their families.

Responsibilities/Duties:

  • Plan, implement and evaluate current therapeutic exercise and wellness/educational programs
  • Research and develop new programming opportunities
  • Attend therapeutic exercise classes and programs
  • Assist in marketing therapeutic exercise and wellness/educational programs
  • Provide in-services to local organizations about MS and recreation
  • Seek out and form relationships with therapeutic exercise providers in the chapter’s service market area
  • Assist in managing therapeutic exercise volunteers

Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of or experience/interest in working with individuals with disabilities
  • Computer skills (Microsoft Office)
  • Desire to help and make a difference in the lives of individuals with MS
Time Commitment and Stipend:

14 to 16 hours a week during the regular business hours of Monday through Friday from 8:30am to 5pm, with the exact days and times to be determined according to intern schedule. An education stipend is awarded to those who complete 100-600 hours per semester. (The average is $500/240 hours of service), this amount is applied directly toward tuition.

Description

The National Multiple Sclerosis Society funds more MS research, offers more services for people with MS, provides more professional education programs and advances more MS advocacy efforts than any other MS organization in the world. Through its home office and nationwide network of chapters, the National MS Society provides assistance to over a million people annually in its continuing mission to end the devastating effects of multiple sclerosis.

Seeking volunteers to the MS cause is the very core of our business. Each year the Society organizes a series of community events that provide many opportunities for the enthusiastic volunteer. The Society offers four key fund-raising activities:

  • Bike MS
  • Walk MS

The Society also engages volunteers to help influence lawmakers at the federal, state and municipal levels toward legislation important to people living with MS. The Society is looking for passionate volunteers with expertise in areas such as:

  • Marketing/Communications
  • Public relations
  • Corporate and donor development
  • Medical, legal, administrative.
