Alternative Directions, Inc. is an organization based in Baltimore, which helps people in prison and leaving prison become independent, responsible citizens. They offer a number of programs to serve these people. The Notre Dame - AmeriCorps member at this site will help with the After Care Transition workshops as well as working to establish a mentoring program for children with incarcerated parents: matching children with mentors and assisting with family reunification for women in transition. This person will work with people in prison and transitioning out, and with their families and other volunteers. This is a full-time service position: 40 hours/week from September 2, 2008 to July 31, 2009.

Skills
- Qualifications: * Desire and motivation to work with volunteers and low-income people * Flexible, positive, and able to handle multiple tasks * Clear writing and communication skills * Strong organizational and leadership skills * Basic Word, Excel, database, and internet experience * Successfully pass a police clearance * Recomended: Valid driver's license and access to a car Preferred Experience: * Volunteer experiences with low-income or underserved populations * Volunteer or work experience with youth * Leadership experience in community organizing, recruitment and public speaking * Conflict resolution skills
