Description
We need your help in getting word out to educators about our various programs.
1) We have a 16-week Self-Esteem and Diversity-Building Program containing Activity Plans that are free to schools and organizations. We need to get word out to educators and need help doing that. The educators that have reviewed our Activity Plans love them and feel they impact students and help them succeed academically and personally.
2) We also do in-school presentations called eM-POWERment Day which help students: 1) Find positive alternatives for negative behaviors like bullying, drug abuse, eating disorders, delinquency; 2) Recognize and reverse negative judgments and stereotypes they have about themselves and others; 3) Recognize and understand negative vs. positive communication styles; 4) Reduce stress through techniques like deep breathing, laughter and mindfulness; and 5) Understand how they see themselves is how they define themselves. eM-POWERment Day features Hey U G L Y's award-winning-speaker, Sporty King. After his presentation to students he meets with teachers and in the evening presents to parents impacting the three most important self-esteem-building environments - home, school and self.
After a recent presentation: 93% of the students now recognize when they are having negative judgments against themselves and others; 83% of the students state they learned how to cancel out negative judgments and replace them with positive thoughts; and, 58% of the students indicate that no one has bullied them since our presentation
3) The Hey U G L Y Hue-Man Being Art Project(TM) is a diversity driven program to impress upon children, and illuminate to adults, that we are all brothers and sisters simply hued variously. We are implementing an art project asking students to create artistic renderings of hue-man beings - people of various hues - getting along together. Each submission will include a three-sentence summary on why it's important to view each other as brothers and sisters in order to create a world where we can all live together in peace. We will take the 50 most representative entries and have them displayed at art museums. We also plan to publish a book of the art w/proceeds benefiting Hey U G L Y and school art programs. Our objective is to empower the next generation to create a world that truly embraces equality.
4) We have a radio show called CHOOSE TO CHANGE . The show features songs that nurture positive self-esteem and promote diversity, perseverance, peace and a healthy planet. It airs every Wednesday at 6:30PM EST and Monday Morning at 10 AM EST. The show is on WRHC 106.7FM and streams live on the internet at http://www.radioharborcountry.org . Simply cut and paste that url into your browser and once you get to the site, click on the "Listen Now" button. If you'd like to read the lyrics to the songs as we are playing them, or see the songs that we have played in previous shows, go to the following blog address - http://choosetochangeradioshow.blogspot.com
