VISTA Opportunity: Emergency Planning and Volunteer Management

The Whatcom County, WA, Medical Reserve Corps is looking for a full-time VISTA volunteer. This great opportunity will give you real-world experience in emergency planning and volunteer management. You'll be working full-time for one-year with the Whatcom County Medical Reserve Corps.

The Whatcom County Medical Reserve Corps assists local, existing community emergency medical response systems as well as provide a group of readily trained and available resources to help communities deal with pressing public health needs and improvements. The Vista volunteer will assist with community outreach, public education and recruiting volunteers to expand the capacity of the Medical Reserve Corps units.

The selected Vista volunteer Member will assist in working with community partners (DEM, OEM, Red Cross, COAD, etc.) in developing the scope and continued operation of the MRC. Member will help recruit and retain volunteers for the MRC, establish and update a MRC database, maintain the MRC website and develop and distribute the MRC newsletter.

VISTA volunteers receive a modest living allowance of $850/month, health insurance, a $4,725 Segal AmeriCorps Education Award or $1,200 post-service stipend and childcare assistance. In addition, out of area volunteers receive help with moving expenses. Please note that Vista volunteers may not attend school during their volunteer experience.
