Volunteers at an information desk, first and foremost, help family and friends find their loved ones. Volunteers also provide directions to hospital departments and waiting areas.
Some information desk volunteers also process incoming patient mail and deliver it to their rooms - including flowers and gifts. Information desk volunteers are also called upon at times to advocate for a patient or family.
Volunteers are needed for at least one 4 hour shift each week, Monday thru Friday. Morning shifts are typically 8am-Noon, and afternoon shifts are typically Noon-4pm, though there is some flexibility.
Volunteers receive a free meal on their day of service, free parking, and free uniform. Volunteers also enjoy taking the summer off.

Mission Statement
The Hospital Volunteers provide support and non-clinical care to the patients and families of OU Medical Center Adult Towers, and endorse the hospital's mission to value compassion, quality care, and teamwork.
Description
The volunteer organization was founded in 1960 as the Wesley Hospital Volunteer Auxiliary. Wesley Hospital became affiliated with the United Presbyterian Church in 1964. Hence, the name changed to Presbyterian Hospital Volunteer Auxiliary. In 2003, following the hospital's Joint Operating Agreement with the state of Oklahoma, Presbyterian Hospital and the University Hospital Volunteers merged services. Now established as The Medical Center Volunteers, the organization strives to provide the patients and families of OU MEDICAL CENTER with a variety of patient services. In the past 40 years, the organization has evolved to become an integral part of our hospital services. The volunteers manage the hospital gifts shops, information desks, art galleries and other services focusing on providing patient/family support and comfort. Proceeds from our gift shops allow our organization to support patient services, education, and community health programs.
