Description
The Queen's Medical Center Surgery Waiting Room is seeking volunteers to be the liaison between the patients' family and professional staff. Our volunteers are vital to the communication in the Surgery Waiting Room.
The Surgery Waiting Room Volunteers' purpose is to provide a location close to the operating room for the family who are waiting for patients undergoing surgery and recovering from anesthesia, and to facilitate communication between the nursing staff, the medical staff and the people who are waiting for surgical patients. Volunteers also help to assure those waiting that patients are receiving excellent care.
Skills
The following skills are required: proficiency in English both written and verbal, superior customer service, establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers and staff, and a desire to please.
All Queen's volunteers are required to complete two-step TB clearance, attend Orientation from the Volunteer Office and purchase a Queen's volunteer uniform. Lots of training for this position is provided.
Once a volunteer has completed their initial training, they may then be able to train in the surgery waiting room. Hours available for volunteers for the Surgery Waiting Room are from 3:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. , Monday through Friday.
