Description

Simpson Housing Services has a new program called Rapid Exit designed to help men and women who have experienced short-term homelessness obtain housing quickly.

Most of our program participants are in their 40's and have new employment. Our goal is to prevent them from experiencing long-term homelessness by moving them out of shelter and into housing as soon as possible.

Our agency helps people find an affordable apartment, pays basic fees, and assists with finding furniture. Because of their homelessness, program participants have lost everything they owned and are now in the process of putting their entire life back together. Program participants are in great need of basic necessities upon move-in.

Volunteers can help by putting together a Moving Out Care Basket. To create a Moving Out Care Basket you would need the following:

  • Laundry Basket
  • Pillow
  • Laundry Detergent
  • Household Cleaner
  • Sponge
  • A $20 gift card to Cub or Rainbow for groceries

Volunteers can purchase items at a local discount store and deliver to SHS Offices Mon-Fri between 9 am and 5 pm, or by appointment (we have flexible hours if you contact us). If you would like, you can include a welcome home card.

If you would like to put additional items in the laundry basket, program participants are also in need of the following items:

  • Twin size sheets
  • Bath towel
  • Kitchen supplies - bowl, spoon, cooking pot
  • Toothbrush
  • Toothpaste
  • Shampoo
  • Soap
  • Toilet paper
We are hoping to move 5 people into housing per month. Having a basket for each person will not only help with basic needs, but also help celebrate their new employment and housing.
