THIS YEAR ACROSS OUR GREAT WEST DIVISION WE ARE HELPING OVER 19,000 CANCER PATIENTS AND THEIR FAMILIES GET THE INFORMATION AND HELP THEY NEED THROUGH OUR CANCER RESOURCE CENTERS.

The goal of the American Cancer Society is to provide information and support to newly diagnosed cancer patients to support better decision making and improve the quality of life of cancer patients. To make this as easy as possible for the patients, we are going to them with the Cancer Resource Centers. A Cancer Resource Center (CRC) is a designated space in a cancer treatment facility where highly trained American Cancer Society volunteers provide materials and information on ACS programs and community resources.

Position: Cancer Resource Center Publicity Chair

Location: Providence Regional Cancer System, Lacey, WA

Time Frame: 1-2 years

Responsible to: Cancer Resource Center Lead Chair

Summary: The CRC Publicity Chair will be responsible for planning and implementing a strategy that promotes awareness of and education about the Cancer Resource Center and the American Cancer Society. The strategy should include CRC promotion in the community, outreach to patients and the recruitment of volunteers for the Cancer Resource Center and American Cancer Society programs.

Responsibilities:

- Negotiate free advertising or Public Service Announcements with local media. Identify and pitch inspiring stories to local media outlets that could be newsworthy to the News Department -

- In addition to traditional media channels, take advantage of local alternative media including announcements at community gatherings or sporting events, blurbs in local newsletters for Home Owners Associations, Recreation Centers, or church bulletins, etc.

-Work with public relations or community relations person from the host site (Treatment Center) to collaborate on stories or blurbs for any host facility newsletter or promotional pieces.

-Recruit CRC volunteers among community contacts

Qualifications: Knowledge of and commitment to the American Cancer Society Mission. Knowledge of the community for recruitment of volunteers. Interest in leadership with the American Cancer Society. Marketing, communications, or media experience a plus.

Support Provided: Guidebook with complete expectations, instructions and resources. All necessary print materials. Staff support.
