Relieve a tired family caregiver by providing two or three hours as a "sitter." Enjoy the company of an older adult while providing a family caregiver with a chance to attend to his or her own needs.
All companions receive training prior to going on assignment. This position requires a minimum of two visits per month with the same family in order to develop a relationship.
Assignments are in Chapel Hill or Durham. The hours are flexible and we make every effort to match the volunteer with a client who lives nearby.

Description
A Helping Hand is unique in both structure and approach. Wholly independent and locally-founded, we are the only non-profit companion care provider in Durham, Orange and northern Chatham Counties.
Companion care provides friendship, socialization and transportation to seniors and adults with disabilities who would otherwise be isolated. Our tailored, person-centered care and companion matching process ensures we can provide compatible matches and meaningful interactions for both our volunteers and our clients of all income levels.
