Long Island Pride Parade & Festival

Description

We produce Long Island's Lesbian, Gay Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) Pride Parade & Festival in June, but we need volunteers throughout the year.

Volunteers are needed to assist with coordination and overseeing activities leading up to and during the rally, parade and festival. We also need help with fund-raising throughout the year, including writing grants and securing sponsorships. The board and volunteers meet once a month to plan activities for the coming months and year.

Long Island Pride Parade, Inc. presents the Rally, Parade & Festival on a Sunday in early June each year. T he Rally starts at 12PM in the Municipal Parking lot on Gerard St. opposite the Huntington Post Office and includes Speakers, Music and entertainment. The Long Island Pride Parade starts in the location of the Rally recently has been held along Main Street in Huntington Village. According to public estimates, the Parade drew an estimated 5,000 spectators in 2007, making it one of the largest parades outside of New York City in New York State.

The Festival in the Park is takes place in Heckscher Park which is in Huntington at Prime Ave. And Rte. 25a. Celebrating the spirit and vitality of the Long Island GLBT Community, the festival truly has something to offer everyone. Featuring all-live entertainment, food courts, community information booths, vendors of all kinds and much more. The festival is free for everyone to attend, with no admission charges. Families can enjoy our "PRIDE KIDDIE KORNER"-Clown, Face Painting, Cotton Candy, Balloon Animals and the Moon Bouncer.... FREE for the kids ! Enjoy the "WALK OF PRIDE " - 18 years of Long Island Pride Parades.

The parade committee holds several dances / fundraisers throughout the year with its largest event each year being the Winter Ball. We need volunteers for any and all aspects of our organization. Please consider helping to make the parade and festival a success by lending us your talents.
