NextStep Recycling, partner of World Computer Exchange, is a non-profit organization seeking qualified computer builders to test, build, clean, and prepare for shipping computers and other hardware, to be shipped to World Computer Exchange placements.

Description:
World Computer Exchange - Eugene is a group of volunteers in the greater Eugene chapter who help to raise funds and gather, test and pack donated computers that are sent overseas to schools and community organizations with approved plans to implement an ICT project. We are seeking volunteers to help test, repair, upgrade, and pack donated computer equipment, Builders are asked to commit three hours at a time, Tuesday through Saturday, 10 AM - 6 PM at 2101 W. 10th, Eugene, OR 97402.

World Computer Exchange (WCE) is an international educational nonprofit focused on helping the world's poorest youth to bridge the disturbing global divides in information, technology and understanding. WCE keeps donated computers out of landfills and gives them new life connecting youth to the Internet in developing countries. WCE leverages the resources of volunteers, businesses, strategic allies, and schools to build the capacity of WCE's partners to prepare local schools and students to use the Internet as a bridge to new resources.


Skills

  • * Ability to follow directions and work with a wide variety of people. * Ability to remove, reinstall hard drives and RAM. * Ability to diagnose CPU, printer, and monitor problems. * Ability to pack tested items for shipping according to directions. * Ability to commit three hours at a time, preferably a minimum of once a week, at our Eugene site.
