We are looking for motivated volunteers, interested in learning new skills and real world work experience. Working with a multicultural low income community our volunteers are committed to social justice issues, interested in making a real change in the life of immigrants. An important part of our mission is to eliminate poverty and its causes by promoting self-sufficiency. When you volunteer for us, you will be helping to change lives and help immigrants and newcomers learn both new skills and American customs. We need volunteers in the following areas:

  • ESL - English as a second language Teachers, 5 - 7 hours per week, basic training provided.
  • Basic Computers Literacy Teacher, 4 hours per week, basic training provided.
  • General Volunteers: general office help, data base, writing marketing and advertising pieces, help other volunteers, etc.

Description

In 1964, the Kennedy Center opened with an emphasis on Head Start and job-training and placement programs. That focus has expanded over the years to include full-day childcare, advocacy, home care and recreational services for the elderly, substance abuse counseling, and community services, including ethnically focused services for the many immigrants who have become part of the community in recent years.
