Court Appointed Special Advocate Volunteers called CASA Advocates work in the court system for children who have been removed from their home by the courts. CASA Advocates investigate, interview, review records and gather as much information to present to the court what is the "best interest" of the child. A forty hour training will give CASA Advocates needed skills used to gather information, interview collaterals and write court reports. On the average a CASA Advocate spends between 5 and 15 hours a month on the case. If this sounds like an opportunity you are interested in please call for your volunteer packet of information.

Mission Statement
The Essex County CASA Program recruits and trains volunteers to advocate for the best interest of children who have been removed from their homes due to abuse and neglect.
Description
After 40 hours of training, each volunteer/advocate is appointed to a case by the Juvenile Court Judge to gather all relevant information about the assigned children and visit them monthly. The volunteer then uses that knowledge to prepare an informed, objective written report for the judge each time the case is heard in court. Staff monitor and offer support to the volunteers.
